Pilates FAQ
Bookings can be made via our website by clicking on the [Book Class] button, which will take you through to our online booking section. Bookings can also be made by calling the stusio on 03 9571 6977, or by visiting us at Grounded Movement in Malvern East during business hours.
Our classes are by appointment only, so we recommend securing your sessions ahead of time. Some clients prefer to have a regular session which recurs each week, which guarantees your preferred day/time with your preferred practitioner. Other clients prefer to book in on a week to week basis. We use MindBody practice management software – so if you have an account in the MindBody app, you can search for Grounded Movement and book from there.
Grounded Movement accepts all major credit cards, debit cards, cheques and cash. Receipts/Tax Invoices will be supplied upon request. The most economical way of purchasing ongoing Pilates classes is to pre-purchase; we offer x10 and x20 sessions packages, which takes the hassle out of paying every time you attend, streamlining your Pilates experience. We keep track of your attendance on our computer system and will let you know how your package is progressing.
Whatever you are comfortable in! Your practitioner needs to see your body’s form and function, so firmer fitting clothes are preferred over baggy clothes. We have two large change rooms at our Malvern East studio for your convenience, for you to get changed before/after work, school or sport.
We supply all the equipment you will need in the Pilates studio. We recommend bringing a small towel and water bottle (we have filtered water at the studio for you). Socks are required for some exercises; we have grip socks available for purchase at the studio. We have small storage space for you to stow your personal belongings safely during your Pilates session.
We recommend that you arrive 10 minutes prior to your scheduled class time, to check in, get changed if required and settle in to the vibe of the space. Our practitioners are highly skilled instructors and are experts in tailoring your class to suit your needs on any given day. We invite you to ask as many questions as you like. If you feel uncomfortable or unsure of what is being asked of you, or you do not understand your instructions, please let your practitioner know, as we are here to help you at all times.
In an ideal world, we believe that everybody should be doing Pilates every day! We are also realistic and understand that this not feasible for most people. Grounded Movement recommends attending 2 sessions per week to reinforce the fundamental principles, feel your confidence growing, see the improvements within your body and to maintain your motivation. Attend:
- Once a week to understand it,
- Twice a week to feel it,
- Three times a week for transformation.
According to the Australian government’s recent review into Private Health Insurance Reform, Pilates-only sessions will no longer be funded as of 1 April 2019, regardless of who delivers it or how it is delivered. The Australian Physiotherapy Association has reached agreement with the Government to ensure that exercises prescribed by physiotherapists (which include Pilates-inspired repertoire) as part of an individualised program will continue to receive rebates in one-on-one, group and class settings. We call these sessions Functional Physio Classes – click here for more info.
The Reformer is but one piece of equipment in our studio full of unique and wonderful Pilates bits and pieces! Most clients will utilise the Reformer in each of their classes, along with other apparatus, but we do not offer classes solely conducted on the Reformer.
There has been a boom in Pilates as a fitness modality over the last 10 years. We love that people have become so passionate about Pilates and all it offers. Unfortunately, we do see some clients who have had negative experiences in other gyms or institutions. So how do you determine the quality of a Pilates studio and practitioner? A professional practitioner will:
- be a committed, paid-up member of their professional association
- carry an internationally accredited qualification
- engage in regular ongoing education in the Pilates or allied health field
- have tertiary level qualifications in a complimentary, allied health modality
- apply current evidence to ensure best clinical practice
